On Thursday night in Washington DC, Sam took the court with Andy Roddick on center court at 7:00 p.m. as the featured night match for an All-American showdown and a spot in the quarterfinal round. The first set, which came down to a tiebreaker, resulted in several exchanges of service games before Roddick closed out the first set against Sam. In the second set, again the two big serving Americans exchanged service games until Roddick finally defeated Sam in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.
